jerry show
What a great Jerry show--Crazy Fingers, China Doll, and Wharf Rat all in the 2nd set, with a killer Bird Song in the first and a second encore of She Belongs to Me. Played with authority, too--not great singing from Jerry, but who cares when he plays like that. I love the Playin' out of the space--they should have done that more often. Playin' shows were almost always a treat.
The night before this show, a friend saw Bob Weir in the elevator and invited him to our room. He said, sure why not? I was almost asleep and when they came in, I asked my friend if he'd brought the cheerleaders, just being silly. I heard this voice say, "I'll have to do, I guess." We ended up smoking a lot of weed and shooting the shit, and he put us on the guest list (not a laminate or a pass, just free entry through the back gate). The next day we went to go in and they didn't have our names yet, because he hadn't shown up yet. The person at the gate said, "Oh, so that's where he was, we were looking for him all night." Finally he drives up (he was driving some little car, nothing special), sees us and stops to say hi and tell us that yes, we're on the list. He gives our names to the person at the gate, and in we went. Kinda cool. That pipe was forevermore the "Bob Weir pipe".

Oh yeah
I think 1985 was my favorite year at Frost, and this show had a lot to do with it. A treasured tape indeed, and how convenient to have access to it on a browser.
